Who approves your event, and what they ask about cooking

Jupiter events split across two authorities: the Town of Jupiter and Palm Beach County. Which one reviews your event depends on the address and the site, and that answer usually decides your date before the menu does. The map below is here for orientation only.

Town of Jupiter special permits

  • The Town handles special event permits, sign permits and vegetation removal permits through Planning and Zoning.
  • The Town's building department notes that tent permits are applied for through Planning and Zoning as a special events permit, which matters if your covered cooking area is a tent.
  • Special permits sit in Article IV of the Town's zoning code, which sets the review path and the approval criteria the Town applies.
  • Start from the Town's planning and zoning fees, forms and applications page and confirm your specific event with the Town.

Jupiter Civic Center at Carlin Park

  • The Civic Center sits at the northeast end of Carlin Park and is rented through the Town, not the County.
  • The Town's rental FAQ states that renters are not permitted to bring in their own tables, chairs, portable air conditioning units, bounce houses or food trucks, so any outside catering equipment has to be cleared with the Town before you plan around it.
  • The Town's published rental rules also set an application window, a resident-applicant requirement and a rental-day access window that includes setup and cleanup.
  • The Town has posted notices affecting this facility, including beach erosion and a scheduled closure for upgrades. Check the Civic Center page and the Town facility rentals page for current notices before you set a date.

County beaches, parks and pavilions

  • The Town does not issue special event permits for the beach. Those go through Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation.
  • All Jupiter beach pavilions other than the Carlin Park Civic Center are handled by the County.
  • County rules state that fires are not permitted on County beaches and parks, including the beaches in Jupiter, Carlin Park and the Civic Center. A live cooking station has to be discussed with the County on that basis, not assumed.
  • County group pavilion rules require vendors and vendor activities to be identified on the permit, and the County's special events application describes liability insurance requirements that extend to caterers and vendors. Details are on the County pavilion rental page.

Clubs, clubhouses and gated communities

  • Not every Jupiter mailing address sits inside Town limits. The Town lists communities such as Jupiter Farms and Jonathan's Landing as unincorporated Palm Beach County, which changes who reviews the event.
  • Private clubs and HOA clubhouses set their own outside-caterer rules. Ask what vendor documentation, insurance certificate and approval steps they require, and how far in advance.
  • Ask for the load-in window, gate or security notification process and the kitchen or service area you are allowed to stage from.
  • Confirm whether an open cooking station is allowed in the room or terrace you have in mind before the layout is finalized.

VNV Events does not apply for, obtain or guarantee permits or venue approvals. Permitting and approvals are the responsibility of the host, the venue or your planner. We will give you the setup details you need to answer the Town's, the County's or the venue's questions accurately.

What a live station needs from your Jupiter venue

This is cooked equipment placed where guests stand, so a short walkthrough settles almost everything before anyone signs.

Seven things to confirm

  • Covered cooking area. Clubhouse interior, covered terrace or a tent. If the cover is a tent, remember the Town routes tent permits through Planning and Zoning as a special events permit.
  • Power. Identify the nearest usable power source and its distance from the station. At park sites this is the first question, not the last: the County documents its group pavilions as equipped with a 15 amp breaker. We confirm the actual requirement with your venue instead of assuming what a circuit can carry.
  • Load-in path. Gate or security notification, parking distance, elevators, stairs and door widths between the vehicle and the station.
  • Guest flow. Place the queue so it does not cut across the bar, the dance floor or a main walkway.
  • Service window. The two hours of live preparation can run as a late dessert moment or as part of the meal. Pick one before the timeline is built.
  • Venue approval. Ask your club, HOA clubhouse or Town or County contact what an outside caterer with an on-site cooking station has to submit, and whether the equipment is allowed at that specific site.
  • Weather and wind. Coastal Jupiter sites add wind to the usual heat and afternoon rain. Decide the indoor or covered fallback position in advance.
