Check before you book. The Village of Key Biscayne special event permit application, which cites Village Code Chapter 17-5, states that a special event permit is required for events taking place on public or private property, that the application must be submitted not less than twenty days in advance, and that the event must be approved by the Village Manager. The application also asks whether vendors will be cooking or heating food and points to Fire Rescue requirements covering cooking, tents, canopies and generators. Requirements change, so confirm your specific event and property directly with the Village. VNV Events does not apply for, obtain or guarantee permits.
Crandon Park is operated by Miami-Dade County, so it runs on the County parks rental and special events permit process rather than the Village process. The published Crandon Park picnic shelter rental agreement also states that shelters have no electricity or running water, that personal generators are not permitted and vendors are required to provide silent generators, that the use of propane is prohibited, that vendors must be on the Miami-Dade Parks registered party vendor list, and that tents larger than ten by ten feet are not allowed. Those terms decide whether a live cooking station is workable there, so confirm the current rules with the park before planning around it.
