The experience

Cooking that doubles as the entertainment

A crepe station puts a chef in the middle of the room instead of behind a service door. Guests pick a direction, watch it cook and walk away with something made for them, which is why the same station works as a dessert moment or as part of the meal. This page covers the Margate side of that setup: venue, power, placement and the City's rules for onsite cooking. The full service overview lives on the South Florida crepe station page.

Margate planning

Permits, pavilions and the questions to settle first

A crepe station is live cooking equipment in a guest-facing spot, and that is exactly the part a city reviews. In Margate the paperwork usually decides the date long before the menu does.

Service area focus: Margate, Florida. This map identifies the city only and does not represent a VNV Events office.

Temporary use permits and onsite cooking

  • The City of Margate reviews temporary outdoor uses, tents and temporary structures through a Temporary Use Permit issued under Section 3.24 of Appendix A of the City Code and administered by the Development Services Department.
  • The application checklist speaks to onsite cooking directly: cooking equipment used in fixed, mobile or temporary concessions must carry fire suppression equipment, including extinguishers and hood suppression systems where applicable, maintained and serviced by a Florida State certified company.
  • Cooking under a canopy or tent requires flame-resistant material with a tag or label complying with NFPA 701, and mobile or temporary cooking is not permitted inside tents occupied by the public.
  • Fire inspections are conducted before a special event opens, and each property is limited to four temporary use permits in a calendar year.
  • Read the current form and requirements on the City of Margate zoning and permit applications page, then confirm your specific event with Development Services.

Royal Palm Park, Calypso Cove and City facilities

  • Margate Parks and Recreation handles athletic fields, outdoor pavilions and indoor facilities, with Calypso Cove reserved on its own line and all other facilities booked separately.
  • Royal Palm Park is home to Calypso Cove and includes rentable pavilions, covered playgrounds, an outside picnic area and a fishing dock; the aquatic facility itself offers a party room rental.
  • A pavilion reservation is not automatically permission to bring in an outside caterer cooking on-site. Ask Parks and Recreation what your specific booking allows before you set a guest count.
  • Reservation contacts and options are on the Margate rentals and permits page.

VNV Events does not apply for, obtain or guarantee permits. Permitting and approvals are the responsibility of the host, the venue or your planner. We will give you the setup details you need to answer the City's or the venue's questions accurately.

Site logistics

What a live station needs from your Margate venue

Most of this is settled in a short walkthrough or a phone call with the venue, well before anyone signs anything.

Seven things to confirm

  • Covered cooking area. Clubhouse interior, covered terrace, a reserved pavilion or a tent that meets the City's flame-resistant requirement. Uncovered placement is the most common reason a station has to move on the day.
  • Power and access. Identify the nearest usable power source and how far it sits from the station. Park pavilions and older clubhouses vary widely, so we confirm the actual requirement with your venue instead of assuming what a circuit can carry.
  • Load-in path. Gatehouse or security notification in a gated community, parking distance, door widths, stairs and elevators between the vehicle and the station.
  • Guest flow. Place the queue so it does not cut across the bar, the dance floor or a main walkway. Under a pavilion, that usually means deciding which side the line forms on.
  • Service window. The two hours of live preparation can run as a late dessert moment or as part of the meal. Pick one before the timeline is built.
  • Venue approval. HOA clubhouses and City facilities both ask outside caterers for documentation. Find out what vendor paperwork is required and who has to sign it.
  • Weather contingency. South Florida heat and afternoon rain both matter for an open-air cooking setup. Decide the indoor or covered fallback position in advance.

Choices that make the station feel personal

Sweet direction

Build the three sweet fillings around fruit, chocolate and cream for a dessert-forward moment near the end of the night.

Savory direction

Use the three savory fillings so the station carries part of the meal rather than sitting at the end of it.

Event styling

Coordinate the buffet presentation with the colors and atmosphere of the celebration, indoors or under cover.

Questions

Before you reserve in Margate

How much does a VNV crepe station cost in Margate?

The current published base price is $19 per guest with a 25-guest minimum. Delivery, taxes, upgrades, availability, venue requirements and final menu selections are confirmed in your written proposal.

Do we need a City permit for a crepe station in Margate?

It depends on the property and the setup. The City of Margate reviews temporary outdoor uses, tents and temporary structures through a Temporary Use Permit issued under Section 3.24 of Appendix A of the City Code and administered by the Development Services Department. The application checklist addresses onsite cooking directly, including fire extinguishers and hood suppression equipment where applicable, canopies or tents of flame-resistant material tagged to NFPA 701, and a rule that mobile or temporary cooking may not take place inside tents occupied by the public. Confirm your specific event directly with the City. VNV Events does not apply for or guarantee permits.

Can the crepe station be set up at Royal Palm Park or Calypso Cove?

Royal Palm Park is home to Calypso Cove and includes rentable pavilions, and the aquatic facility offers a party room rental. City of Margate Parks and Recreation books outdoor pavilions and indoor facilities, with Calypso Cove reserved on its own phone line. A reservation is not automatically permission to bring in an outside caterer cooking on-site, so confirm what your booking allows before you commit to a date.

Are the crepes really made at the event?

Yes. The package includes two hours of live-chef preparation on-site, with sweet and savory crepes made in front of guests and served from a styled buffet.

What does the station need from our Margate venue?

A covered cooking area, a safe power source close to the station and a clear load-in path from parking. If the cover is a canopy or tent, the City's temporary use requirements call for flame-resistant material and keep temporary cooking out of tents occupied by the public, which changes where the station can sit. Exact power and placement requirements are confirmed with your venue before the proposal is finalized rather than assumed.
