It depends on the property and the setup. The City of Sweetwater Building and Zoning Department publishes a Special Event Permit and a Special Event Form on its important forms page, and events on City property or setups that add temporary structures, vendors or onsite cooking are reviewed by the City rather than assumed. A private clubhouse, banquet hall or backyard event usually follows the venue rules instead, but only the City can confirm your specific case. VNV Events does not apply for, obtain or guarantee permits.
The City owns and maintains four parks. Ronselli Park, at SW 114th Avenue and SW 2nd Street, is the largest, and the City lists the Jorge Mas Canosa building as available for party rentals on weekends. The City facility rentals page lists options such as gazebos, six-hour rental blocks and rental hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Adding a live cooking station, tent or generator to a reservation needs the City approval, so confirm the reservation and that approval before you commit to a date.
Some addresses near the edges of the city belong to unincorporated Miami-Dade County, where the County short-term event rules apply instead of the City process. County guidance states that building permit applications for short-term events must be submitted at least thirty days before the event, that tents of 10 by 12 feet or smaller generally do not require a building permit, and that plans are reviewed by additional agencies including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Confirm which jurisdiction your exact address falls in before planning around either rule.
